Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades After Leading Abusive Songs Targeting Manager Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side just half a year after instigating insulting taunts directed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
This experienced striker, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has agreed to a deal joining the Championship club in difficulty through the winter. His seven-year career at Elland Road was ended amicably this past summer.
One of the player's final notable acts while at Leeds included starting abusive songs about Wilder during the club’s success festivities this spring. Now, the one-cap England international will feature under Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to rescue his beloved club out of the drop zone.
Previous Conflict Between the Striker and the Manager
Both men had history prior to Leeds won promotion back to the Premier League last season and United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won automatic promotion while Leeds United missed out in the promotion playoffs.
Reconciliation and Looking Ahead
Everything seems to have been resolved with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of a boost in attack and Bamford looking to revive his career.
The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Chris Wilder said back then: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I have no problem whatsoever with that. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.
“We had 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel as well and we had a longer discussion with him and he's a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we would give it and take it and that’s part and parcel of football at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
Latest Career Struggles
Bamford featured in 18 appearances for Leeds last season but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
