It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
