The Latest Casual Game Mode Ignites Intense Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features several notable changes:
- Each team includes only 8 real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
- Activities done by real players award full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for gamers seeking different methods to enjoy the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.
Community Responses: Anger to Support
"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Criticisms and Player Input
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the player base compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
