The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often marked by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming sensibility.
"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about observing this lovable family go about their everyday routines.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
The Path Forward
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
