Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Secures Consecutive WTA Top Player Accolades.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight year.
The twenty-seven-year-old won four tournament victories – the most on tour – including retaining the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship.
A Season of Dominance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka played in a tour-best nine championship matches, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the entire year as the top-ranked player, ending 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she became the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Record-Breaking Statistics
Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a 63-12 match record, and collected a historic £11m in tournament winnings.
She earned almost eighty percent of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.
Later this month, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "help bring women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Other WTA Award Winners
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking 13-month break after the arrival of her daughter and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after beginning the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and rising to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after winning their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after advancing to five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third time.
